Chemistry in Galician, the perfect Christmas accompaniment
The Christmas lights brighten the streets of our towns and cities, Christmas carols are the official soundtrack for the month of December and the holiday gifts are just around the corner — although one of them has arrived at Campus Terra earlier than expected.
The CienciaNOSA group of the USC, coordinated by Professor Marcelino Maneiro Maneiro, from the Faculty of Sciences of Lugo, has just launched the open course “Chemistry, an experimental science”, which is taught in Galician. This new online programme and educational tool is a result of the 1st Call for Educational Innovation Projects on MOOC of the USC.
It is divided into six different units and includes audiovisual material that will make the training even more interesting and appealing. The 24 videos that make up the course were recorded in different laboratories of the Faculty of Sciences, on Campus Terra — yes, the staff of our campus collaborated with the CienciaNOSA research group to make the project come to life.
Thus, the video resources —which include live experiments— complement the content of each section in this training, which also provides students with a summary of the main concepts of each module and a questionnaire to check their individual progress.
There is no doubt that this initiative, which was announced at the 34th Congress of Science Teachers of Galicia, will be very valuable for high school students and first-year university students of experimental science degrees. An example of this is the visual introduction of concepts such as stoichiometry, redox or acid–base reactions.
This programme also gives continuity to the didactic tools offered by CienciaNOSA on chemistry practices, available on its YouTube channel Proxecto Funil, which already has over 320,000 views.
If you want to gift yourself the free course “Chemistry, an experimental science”, which will take place in January and February, and get a diploma after completing it, make sure to register before December 20 on www.funil.gal.
