As ESI, APCI, APPI and MALDI techniques are soft techniques, in which fragmentation of the peak of the molecule of interest is rare, there is the additional service of MS/MS Fragmentation with an additional cost to the technique used. In this way, complementary structural information is obtained from the fragmentation pattern.
MS/MS Fragmentation can fragment the sample selectively or not, using ESI/APCI/APPI-FIA, APCI/APPI-Sondea, nanoESI and MALDI techniques. This is done by isolating the m/z ion and fragmenting it with a gas in the collision cell of the device. It can only be used for high resolution services.
