'Languages and Compilers for the New Parallel Systems'

29.10.2008 | 12.30h

Increasing the speed of high performance computations by using parallelism is an old idea with a new urgency. The emergence of multicores on chips has created new parallel performance opportunities and new software challenges.

The talk will focus on the role of programming languages and compilers in delivering parallel performance to users and applications. The speaker’s personal experiences with languages and compilers for high performance systems will provide the basis for her observations. The talk is intended to encourage the exploration of new approaches to new challenges such as the IBM 50 Billion Transistor Machine Challenge.
