Medals and distinctions

Honors and distinctions of the University of Santiago de Compostela

According to the article 161 of the Statutes, are honors and distinctions of the University of Santiago de Compostela the following ones:

  1. The gold insignia of the university.
  2. The gold medal of the university.
  3. The degree of PhD honoris causa

The awarding of the insignia and the gold medal is regulated by the Regulations of Honors and Distinctions of the USC of March, 14th, 2008. The awarding of the honoris causa degree is regulated by the Regulations of awarding of honoris causa degrees, passed by the University Staff Meeting on December 21st, 2006 and modified on June 12th, 2007.

The University of Santiago de Compostela has also instituted, for honorary effects, the distinctions of :

  • Fonseca Insignia
  • Patron Insignia and
  • Collaborator of Honor of the University.

The General Secretary Office has a Book-Registry for each one of the distinction mentioned in this Regulations and in the article 166 of the Statutes, including the date of awarding and the recipient or recipients. In each one of them the different awardings would be registered in chronological order. This registry would be public and it would be watched over by  the general secretary.

Without prejudice of the metioned above, the USC, according to the article 3 of the Regulations of Honors and Distinctions, the General Secretary Office can publish all the distinctions in its web site.
