-To know the legal framework that regulates the field of industrial hygiene, both at regional, national and European Union level.
-To evaluate the situations of risk on the health of the workers as for exposure to chemical, physical and biological agents, as well as the preventive measures.
-To know the most important scientific and technical foundations of the safety of chemical processes to help the student understand the concepts and apply them properly. This requires good basic knowledge of engineering and technology.
The contents of the subject must conform, according to the grade report, to the following descriptors:
"Bases of industrial safety. Accidents: Leaks, fires, explosions. Risk: definition, classification, tolerability. Chemistry, Physics and Engineering of the accidents. Industrial Toxicology. Risk analysis and evaluation: qualitative, semi-quantitative and quantitative methods. Safety management. Applicable legislation".
In this way the program is structured in two blocks, one of Toxicology and Industrial Hygiene and the other of Safety Engineering with their respective topics, as indicated below:
BLOCK TOXICOLOGY AND INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE
LESSON 1- ORGANIZATION OF PREVENTION: Law of Prevention of Labor Risks. Organization of prevention within the company. Legal responsibilities. Industrial hygiene and professional illness. Work accident. 1h.
LESSON 2- INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE AND TOXICOLOGY. Concept and background. Branches of industrial hygiene. Classification of pollutants. 2h.
LESSON 3- CHEMICAL POLLUTANTS. Classification. Environmental limit values: Concept and types. Biological limit values: Evaluation criteria. 4h.
LESSON 4. PHYSICAL POLLUTANTS. Noise and vibrations. Ionizing and non-ionizing radiation. Heat. 1h.
LESSON 5- BIOLOGICAL POLLUTANTS. 1h.

ENGINEERING AND SAFETY MANAGEMENT BLOCK
LESSON 1 - INDUSTRIAL SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY. Basis. General legal scope. Industrial accidents. The PPAG. The Systems of Management of the Security. Integration of the labor and industrial safety. Cybersecurity. 4 hours.
LESSON 2- LOSS OF CONTAINMENT IN PROCESSES. Source models. Leaks. Sudden evaporation. Evaporation of spills in puddles. 3 hours.
LESSON 3-CHEMICAL REACTIVITY. Self-decomposition. Reactions in water and air. Uncontrolled reactions. Characterization and consideration of safe design. 3 hours.
LESSON 4- FIRES AND EXPLOSIONS. DESIGN TO PREVENT FIRES AND EXPLOSIONS. Flammability diagrams. Oxygen limit concentrations. Inerting. Ignition, auto-ignition, auto-oxidation, adiabatic compression. Sprays and mists. Detonations, deflagrations and mechanical explosions TNT equivalence and TNO-Multi-energy method. Vapour cloud explosions. Bleve. Purge. Static electricity: Fundamentals and control. Specific legislation. 4 hours.
LESSON 5-INTRODUCTION TO RELIEF SYSTEMS. Definition and location. Data for the dimensioning of relief systems. Dimensioning. Specific legislation. 2 hours.
LESSON 6-EVALUATION OF RISKS. Review of risk level analysis. Dow's fire and explosion index. Fault and event trees. HAZID and HAZOP. Introduction to QRA. 3 hours.

We will use the Learning Management System of the USC through the Moodle application with the following objectives:
- To provide information about the subject (teacher's schedule, schedules, exams, various announcements, etc.)
- To provide the necessary materials for the classes (presentations of the subjects, instructions of the activities, etc.).
- To serve as a communication tool with the students through the news forum.
- To propose homework.
- To propose evaluation tests.
The MS Teams tool will also be used as a means of non face-to-face student/teacher communication in individual tutorials.
EVALUATION BY BLOCKS
TOXICOLOXY AND INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE BLOCK (3.5 points)
1. Exam: 50% (minimum to add up to 40%)
2. Continuous evaluation activities: 45% (minimum to add up grades 40%)
3. Teacher's report: 5%.
A minimum of 1.3 points (out of 3.5) is required to pass

ENGINEERING AND SAFETY MANAGEMENT BLOCK (6.5 POINTS)
1. Exam: 50% (minimum to add up grades 40%)
2. Continuous evaluation: 45% (minimum to add up grades 40%). Delivery of the activities developed in the seminars and delivery of activity developed in group tutoring .
3. Teacher's report (5%)

The final grade of the course will be the sum of the final grades of each block with the following conditions:
1- In case of failing one of the blocks, the approved block will be kept for the July opportunity but not for the following course
2- Activity grades and teacher report cards will be kept for the July opportunity, but not for subsequent courses. No type of recovery is foreseen for the continuous evaluation activities, in which case the evaluation will be 100% exam mode on the entire content of lectures plus seminars.
In the case of fraudulent exercises or tests, the provisions of the Regulations for the Evaluation of Students' Academic Performance and Grade Review shall apply.
