1. To develop a comprehension of the function of the Arts in education, specifically of music, and its contribution to the development of attitudes and habits useful for life and for work.
2. To make known the nature of music and the manners in which music can be learnt.
3. To develop basic music abilities and skills that contribute to the comprehension and knowledge of music theory.
4. To know the school curriculum of Arts Education in its musical aspect, its application in primary education in a confident manner and its relation to other areas, with the general objectives and competences of the level.
5. To take part in music proposals and projects that encourage a longlife participation in activities inside and outside school.
The contents that will be addressed in this subject are the following:
Block I – The nature of music and its meaning in school
• Formative value of music. Why teach music to children? What does it contribute to child development?
• Psychopedagogical fundamentals of music education.
• Music elements and their exploration for an understanding and development in Primary Education.

The competences that the oficial document of the degree assigns to this subject are the following:
• Basic competences:
B.3 That students should have the capacity to gather and interpret relevant data (normally in their area of study) to issue judgements that include a reflection about relevant themes of social, scientific or ethical nature.
B.4 That students can transmit information, ideas, problems and solutions to a public both specialized as not specialized.
B.5 That students should have developed those learning abilities necessary to undertake future studies with a high level of autonomy.
• General competences:
G.1 To know the curricular areas of Primary Education, the interdisciplinar relationships between them, the evaluation criteria and the corps of didactic knowledge around the respective teaching and learning procedures.
G.5 To promote the coexistence in the classroom and outside it, to resolve disciplinary problems and to contribute to the peaceful resolution of conflicts. To stimulate and value effort, perseverance and personal discipline of students.
G.10 To reflect about classroom practices in order to innovate and improve teacher work. To acquire habits and skills for an autonomous and cooperative learning and to promote it in students.
• Specific competences:
E.54 To comprehend the principles that contribute to the cultural, personal and social training from the arts.
E.55 To know the school curriculum of arts education, in its plastic, audiovisual and musical aspects.
E.56 To develop and evaluate curriculum contents by means of appropriate didactic resources and to promote the corresponding competences in students.
E.57 To acquire resources to promote the participation throughout life in music and plastic activities inside and outside school.

Music’s own nature and the different types of competences students must develop through this subject require an intervention in the classroom that combines different strategies. Large group activities will be carried out aimed at speaking, debating and reflecting on the theoretical content of the subject. The students will read previously, when necessary, the written materials to work.
In small group activities, other types of aspects or content that require regular practice and continuous development throughout the course are worked on. In the field of music, “doing” is an essential fact since without its practice it is not possible to advance in its understanding and mastery. The student must dedicate a substantial percentage of personal work to the development of their own musical skills.
Specific music sessions or practices are developed with various group work techniques, which will result in the student operating in multiple spatial configurations. This is to develop in the student the general skills related to attitudes and values.
The small group or tutoring activities will be aimed at guiding and supervising the musical and didactic learning proposed for this subject. Likewise, learning processes can be evaluated more individually.
When the center's budgets allow it, there will be didactic outings or service-learning experiences. An interdisciplinary task may be planned in coordination with teachers from other compulsory subjects of the same course and semester.
The USC virtual classroom will be used as a mandatory work channel and complementary to the teaching-learning process.
Following the card of the subject in the Report of the Degree, the assessment of the subject will take into account the following aspects:
A) EVALUATION IN ORDINARY OPPORTUNITY
Following the card of the subject in the Grade Report, the evaluation of the subject will take into consideration the following sections and percentages:
1. Participation in classroom activities (5% of the final grade): In this section, active participation in face-to-face activities, music practices and, if applicable, educational outings will be taken into consideration. To evaluate this section, it is essential that students attend 80% of the interactive sessions, except for non-attendance for duly justified reasons. An attendance control will be carried out in the interactive sessions. To prove justified absences, students must, within a maximum period of one week, show the subject's teachers the necessary original supporting documents.
2. Specific tests (50% of the final grade): The test will consist of two parts, and it will be necessary to pass both to pass the subject. The first part (30%) will be an individual writing test that will demonstrate mastery of the basic contents of musical language. It will be evaluated on the official exam date. The second part (20%) will consist of an individual quantum test based on the songs worked on in the classroom. This section will be evaluated in a partial exam after finishing the sessions with the responsible teaching staff. Participation in the "Tocamos xuntas" project (rehearsals + concert) will allow up to 0.3 points to be added to either of the two parts of the qualification obtained in section 2.
3. Reports and musical productions in the classroom (30% of the final grade): Individual and collective works will be evaluated using music and what as an educational resource applied to the Primary Education classroom (15%), as well as musical practice and dance applied to the educational context (15%). This section will be evaluated during the interactive sessions with the responsible teaching staff, and it will be necessary to complete all the indicated work to pass the subject.
4. Oral test (15% of the final grade): Presentation of a group work focused on the teaching-learning process of music and the contents worked on during the interactive sessions.
All the reports and tests mentioned above in sections 2, 3 and 4 are mandatory, and the work carried out must preferably be delivered through the Virtual Classroom. In order to pass the subject, it is necessary to have achieved at least a mark of 5 in sections 2, 3 and 4. In the event that a section is failed, the students will be able to retake it in the extraordinary opportunity. Therefore, students who attend less than 80% of face-to-face activities will only be able to obtain points for sections 2, 3 and 4.
B) EVALUATION IN EXTRAORDINARY OPPORTUNITY (RETAKE)
Section 1: This section is not retakeble, so students will maintain the qualification obtained for this opportunity, even if it is failed.
Sections 2, 3 and 4: Students who have passed these sections will maintain their qualification for this opportunity, not being able to retake them. In the case of having a failed and/or pending section, the students must do it at this opportunity.
All the reports and tests mentioned above in sections 2, 3 and 4 are mandatory, and the work carried out must preferably be delivered through the Virtual Classroom. In order to pass the subject, it is necessary to have achieved at least a mark of 5 in sections 2, 3 and 4. In the event that a section is failed, the students will be able to retake it in the extraordinary opportunity. Therefore, students who attend less than 80% of face-to-face activities will only be able to obtain points for sections 2, 3 and 4.
C) STUDENT WITH EXEMPTION FROM TEACHING AND ASSISTANCE WAIVER
As a subject with interactive laboratory groups (CLIL), the USC regulations do not include the option of assistance waiver in this subject. Teaching exemption will only be granted for the expository sessions (CLE), and assistance control will be only carried out in the interactive laboratory groups (CLIL). Therefore, the students in these cases must be evaluated following the same criteria as those indicated in headings A and B.
D) REPEATING STUDENTS
Students repeating the subject will have to study and examine the subject exactly the same as ordinary students, without retaining any qualifications obtained from previous years.
Following the instructions received from the Rectorate and the Faculty, the distribution of the 6 ECTS of this subject is the following:

In the course description guide these hours will appear distributed in different activities to be undertaken during the course.
The teaching proposal that we present is based, in a special manner, on the practice in the classroom. To be able to teach the learning aims proposed for this subject, attendance at the sessions is essential permitting as well the understanding and assimilation of the theory in a simple and effective manner.
• For the development of the teaching activity of this subject, the Virtual Campus of the USC will be used.
• According to the regulations of the USC on attendance, it is mandatory to attend a minimum of 80% of class sessions. In the cases contemplated in the regulations of the Center, students may request an official exemption from teaching, and must inform the teacher of this situation the same week in which it is requested in order to specify their work plan and the evaluation of the subject. The Governing Council of March 25, 2010 approved the Class Attendance Regulations in teaching adapted to the EHEA (http://www.usc.es/export/sites/default/gl/normativa/descargas/normaasis…). In it, the benefits of class attendance are exposed, including facilitating a "better understanding of the subject, the acquisition of skills in groups and individuals, continuous learning, direct interaction with other students or the possibility of a methodology more participatory teacher-student ”. • In relation to personal or group work carried out for the subject, take into account the following indications:
- Avoid plastic caps or other unnecessary external packaging.
- Whenever possible, use staples instead of sleeves.
- Print on two sides in "ink saving" quality.
- Do not use blank pages as separators for chapters or parts.
- Avoid annexes that do not have direct reference to the topics developed.

• The use of the rai email and the institutional technological tools is compulsory: Virtual Campus, Microsoft Office 365, and other tools provided for by the faculty and authorized as institutional tools by the university.
• The use of the mobile phone is not permitted, unless when it is used as a working tool following the indications given by the teacher, having students to assume full responsibility of legal and academic consequences that could arise from a non adequate use of it.
• Take into account that the teaching-learning (classes / tutoring) is a private process, understanding private as the process of communication and exchange between the teacher and the students enrolled in the course.

• Individual or group works must be original. Any copied work will result in the suspension of the subject in the corresponding call. For evaluative purposes, the same work cannot be used for several subjects, unless they are programmed in a coordinated manner. For cases of fraudulent completion of exercises or tests, the regulations for the evaluation of students' academic performance and review of grades will apply.
