Institutional strategy

The Institute's Memorandum of Creation defines four areas that form the backbone of its institutional strategy

The IPsiUS strategy for the period 2024-2027 is structured along four areas: Institutional Development, Research, Talent and Transfer. The goals to be achieved at this stage are indicated for each of them. The actions in which these goals are deployed are specified in the Institute's Memorandum of Creation.

During the launch stage of a new research centre, it is essential to establish the governance and management structures responsible for making strategic and operational decisions to advance the fulfilment of its mission and vision.

In the period 2024-2027, the aim is to implement an agile and efficient governance, management and organisational system that will enable the scientific and revitalisation goal set for the period to be achieved. A flexible and scalable system, appropriate to the economic and organisational capacities of the Institute, which can be adapted to its evolution, especially with regard to the development of its scientific project. The establishment of this system will involve decision-making and the development of procedures and practices relating to the following issues, among other things: the implementation of a scientific organisation model in line with the research agenda, the allocation of resources to support management, as well as the creation of new mechanisms for external advice and links with society. This area also includes factors related to the internal brand positioning of IPsiUS in relation to other scientific institutions in the field of psychology and their stakeholders.

Furthermore, it will be essential during this period to build the organisational identity, not only visually, but also by establishing the values and work culture that define the core values of the institute. For this reason, in the first strategic cycle, it is necessary to highlight community building and the cohesion of a team capable of carrying out a common scientific project.

In view of this, an institutional action plan is proposed with the following operational goals:

  • O1. Implement the governance and organisational structure
  • O2. Adopt a viable management model that ensures sustainability
  • O3. Provide the institute with physical premises and equipment
  • O4. Create a community and establish a collaborative culture
  • O5. Position the institute among scientific collaboration networks

A priority for the expansion of the Institute will be to deploy an agenda aligned with the main social and national and international scientific policy challenges. The aim is to carry out research of excellence which, by combining basic and applied viewpoints and benefiting from the synergies and previous achievements of the groups that make up the Institute, can increase its potential and its scientific and social impact.

Strengthening internal collaboration, promoting international activity based on current experience and adopting policies to promote open science are processes that IPsiUS will address in its first strategic cycle.

These are the goals defined for this period:

  • O6. Improve the quality and impact of research results.
  • O7. Promote the internationalisation of scientific activity.
  • O8. Create synergies between IPsiUS research lines.
  • O9. Define policies for the adoption of good practices in the design and dissemination of research under the principles of open science.

Scientific talent is the main asset in a research organisation. IPsiUS aspires to create an attractive environment for the progression of a research career, positioning the Institute as a benchmark in the promotion of scientific talent. This goal encompasses the promotion of gender equality: visibility, work-life balance, inclusion of the gender perspective in research activity, etc.

IPsiUS's actions are conditioned by its alliance with the USC and its talent management policies. The university's HRS4R accreditation guarantees that the selection, recruitment and professional development processes are in line with international standards, which represents an open opportunity to attract highly qualified research staff..

An analysis of the current situation of the scientific team that makes up IPsiUS reveals a need to address the generational gap by increasing the number of postdoctoral researchers and promoting the incorporation of complementary disciplinary profiles (methodology, data processing, etc.).

These lines guide the goals defined in this area:

  • O10. Increase the recruitment and retention of research staff at different levels in the scientific career path
  • O11. Support the institute's staff in the development of their professional careers

IPsiUS’ strategy for the period 2024-2027 is structured around four areas: Institutional Development, Research, Talent and Transfer. The goals to be achieved in this stage are indicated for each of these areas. The actions in which these goals are implemented are specified in the Institute's Memorandum of Creation..

The lines of work to be implemented at the Institute have great potential for transfer and innovation in terms of generating services, products and assessment and intervention tools that can be used by professionals in different fields and improve the actions of administrations in major social challenges (e.g. ageing, mental health, addiction, violence, social inclusion). The groups that make up the Institute already have experience in transferring research to society through agreements and contracts, product marketing licence agreements, care services, training and professional advice.

This experience is a starting point that aims to be reinforced through the joint work of the centre, making transfer an essential pillar so that the science generated at the Institute, in addition to being of high quality, can develop its full potential to respond to the needs of our environment.

  • O12. Strengthen the Institute's capacity to carry out transfer activities.
  • O13. Promote collaborative activities in the field of healthcare improvement and advice.
  • O14. Promote the development of digital tools and platforms for research and professional practice.
