The main aim of the subject Deutsch I is to achieve, at least, a degree of communicative competence of general German equivalent to level A1/1 according to the descriptors of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The activities of reception, production, interaction and mediation will be developed to evaluate the levels of communicative competence of the student.

The subject Deutsch I has a weekly teaching load (alternate weeks) of 4 hours in the 1st semester and 5 hours in the 2nd semester. The language used for the development of the subject, the didactic material, the statement of the exams and the communication with the students will be German, Spanish or Galician.
The methodology used is mainly based on a communicative approach where the teacher encourages teamwork and "multifunctionality".
The didactic units of this subject have a theoretical-practical character and will be approached from a communicative methodology of use of the language. The different contents will be introduced in communicative situations and through texts or audiovisual materials.
In a second phase, the structures introduced will be explained in a theoretical way, to then move on to the consolidation and in depth study of these structures with exercises of different types. This third practical phase, which constitutes the central part of the subject, consists of the application of the structures learned in didactic activities focused on the development of the different language skills and abilities.
To guarantee a homogeneous and continuous work process in face-to-face classes and to achieve the objectives of the subject, it will be of great importance the regular and active participation in these activities (interactive dialogues: teacher / students, work in pairs or in groups, role plays) by the students.
Since a textbook is used in the subject, it will be necessary to have it in the classroom.
The sessions to work on oral comprehension are available to students in the Virtual Campus. One of the objectives of these sessions is to familiarize students with the use of different German learning tools available on the internet. These resources will support the individual and autonomous learning process that must accompany the face-to-face activities of the subject.
In the tutoring hours with the teacher, guidance is offered related to the individual needs of each student, both about the subject and about the fulfilment of the tasks. Tutorials will always be by appointment.
Depending on personal interests and individual learning preferences and needs, it is recommended to carry out complementary activities such as exercises on the Virtual Campus, the use of audio and video materials available on the Virtual Campus and on the class blog, work with self-study materials, the exchange with native speakers, etc.
If conditions permit, face-to-face and mandatory conversation classes taught by USC conversation assistants may take place during extracurricular hours. In this case, it will be mandatory to attend a number of practical sessions within the deadlines provided for the practice of specific contents and preparation of oral exams. If you have not attended these classes within the deadlines established for it, you will not be allowed to take the oral exams, and the grade of the oral exam will be zero. Participation in them will undoubtedly result in better performance in the area of languages.
The subject Deutsch I will be evaluated by competences. This means that to pass the subject it will be necessary to obtain a grade equal to or greater than 5 in each of them: written competence, oral comprehension and oral production.
The evaluation will be continuous and will include, in addition to the exams, other tests and observations of the teacher on the student's competence to mediate both personally and textually, that is, their ability to synthesize, paraphrase, apostille, quote, translate and intermediate. The student's responsibility for their learning and the progress of autonomous work will also be evaluated. The student has to demonstrate that he has acquired the knowledge and skills necessary to develop the competences programmed for the subject.
Students who do not pass the subject in the first opportunity will be entitled to a second chance, which will be the one that appears in the academic record in the event that the qualification achieved is higher.
o First ordinary opportunity:
A system of continuous evaluation will be followed, which implies the realization of different tests and evaluable activities throughout the course. To pass the subject it is essential to reach a 5 in each of the three competences. The entire content of the subject will be evaluated taking into account the following weighting:
- Written proficiency (40%)
- Listening comprehension (30%)
- Oral production (30%)
- Active participation, class attendance and responsibility for learning: Class attendance and participation will be monitored, as well as autonomous individual work in the virtual classroom. The lack of involvement of the student and not completing the assigned tasks in a timely manner may result in a penalty of up to 10% of the continuous evaluation grade of each skill.
In the different evaluation tests, some exercises will be carried out in which students may be required to pass minimum
requirements. In case of not exceeding these minimums, the grade of the exercise will be 0.
Those students who obtain an average grade equal to or greater than 5 in each of the three competences will not need to take the final exam of this firstopportunity and therefore, the continuous evaluation note will represent 100% of the overall grade, finding the average of the three competences according to the weighting described above.
In case of not having an average of 5 in each of the competences, the student will have to present the final exam of first opportunity, in which he will be evaluated of the subject of the whole course in that or those competences not passed. The grade of each competence will be the result of the average of the continuous control (60%) and the first chance exam (40%). The grade of the subject will be the average of the three competences approved, applying the weighting described above.
If you do not reach a 5/10 in the competence (s) examined in the first opportunity, the subject will be failed, and the overall grade will be the lowest grade of the competence. Students will have to examine themselves in the second extraordinary opportunity of the competences not passed.
Those students exempt from taking the final exam who, however, want to raise their grade, may present themselves at this first opportunity and will have to take the exam of all the parts (written competence, oral comprehension and oral production) and the weightings already mentioned will be applied. In this case the notes of the continuous control will be canceled.
In the CSHG class attendance is mandatory and an important part of the student's training, so repeated absences from the face-to-face activities will affect the qualification of the subject, as follows:
• Total calculation of face-to-face hours (75 hours): 30% of absences implies a penalty of -1 point (23 hours); 60% of absences minus a penalty of -2 points (45 hours).
• If the student reaches 80% of absences over the total of face-to-face hours, the subject will be considered failed with a grade of 0.
o Extraordinary second opportunity:
Students who do not pass the subject at the first opportunity will be entitled to a second chance, which will be the one that appears in the academic record in the event that the grade achieved is higher.
As in the first opportunity, the continuous evaluation marks of the course will be maintained and the student will be examined only of thea/s competence(s) not passed/s. To pass the subject it is essential to reach a 5 in each of the three competences. The grade of each competency will be the result of the average of the continuous control of first chance (40%) and the extraordinary second chance exam (60%). The overall grade of the subject will be the weighted sum of the 3 competences (written competence 40%, oral understanding 30% and oral production 30%).
If you do not reach a 5/10 in the competence(s) examined in the second opportunity, the subject will be failed and the overall grade will be the grade of the lowest competence.
o Subsequent calls
The student will be examined in all three competences. The overall grade will be the weighted sum of these 3 competences (written competence, 40%, oral comprehension, 30% and oral production, 30%).
The training activities and their dedication in hours will be the following:
• Lectures (18 hours), interactive classes (47 hours), tutorials (10 hours), and autonomous student work (45 hours).
As it is an initiation subject, no prior knowledge of German is necessary to take this subject. However, it is advisable to have computer knowledge at the user level to perform tasks and to search for information and support materials on the Internet.
Likewise, to integrate the value of diversity and multiculturalism, it is essential that students dedicate time autonomously to contact with the German language in real contexts: using all the resources at their disposal such as films and series in original version, contacts with natives, etc.
o Academic practices in business
All languages have relevance when carrying out the internships (stages) or academic practices in companies, both in Spain and in other countries, as the student can find himself in real situations with foreign clients. The stage facilitates the awareness of the needs, limitations, and competences of the student. It also allows them to reinforce their communication skills and motivate them to continue learning and improving their level.
o Class attendance exemption
Those students who have requested the exemption from class attendance, as it appears in section 3.1.3 of the Internal Regulations, will be summoned to an oral, listening and written exam to assess the level of language. To obtain such exemption, they must pass the specific tests and obtain a minimum score of 8 out of 10 in each of the parts.
In this case, they will obtain the exemption for the whole degree, they will not be able to attend class and the final grade obtained in the specific tests will be registered for each of the courses of the language in their official record.
