
The University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) is one of the best options in Spain for enrolling in a bachelor’s degree programme, as stated in the ShanghaiRanking published by the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). The classification for 2024 has placed the USC in the interval of 501-600 for the best universities worldwide. The USC was also positioned in the interval of 51-75 in the ShanghaiRanking for studies in the Veterinary Sciences (ranked as 4-5 among universities in Spain), which is a degree programme offered at the Terra Campus. The USC received notably high scores in a total of 15 subjects, distributed across all fields of knowledge that were evaluated by the ranking.
The USC also stands out for its programmes in Environmental Sciences, and also in Engineering, where it has been ranked in the third position in Spain.
The rest of the most notable areas are: Business Administration (ranked as 6-9 in Spain and 201-300 worldwide); Political Science (ranked as 8-9 in Spain and 301-400 worldwide), Clinical Medicine (ranked as 9 in Spain and 401-500 worldwide); Ecology (ranked as 9-20 in Spain and 301-400 worldwide); Agricultural Sciences (ranked as 11-19 in Spain and 201-300 worldwide); Chemistry (ranked as 13-15 in Spain and 401-500 worldwide); and Food Technology and Sciences (ranked as 13-19 in Spain and 201-300 worldwide).
In 2024, the USC achieved its historic maximum in one of the parameters that analyses research results, specifically the number of articles published in the journals Nature and Science. In addition, the USC increased its score for the HiCi index. This parameter is based on the number of articles indexed over the course of the last year in the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) and in the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI). The parameter related to academic performance per capita also increased, and the USC received high scores in the section tracking the number of research personnel highly cited in the Web of Science database managed by Clarivate Analytics.
ACCREDITATIONS
The Faculty of Veterinary Science has international accreditation issued by the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (EAEVE), which positions this faculty among Europe’s leading institutions for veterinary education. In addition, in 2024 the Bachelor’s Degree programme in Veterinary Science received the academic quality seal of excellence, awarded by the regional government of Galicia.
The Advanced Polytechnic School of the Terra Campus is accredited by the Spanish Council of Universities with the international EUR-ACE label, based on its high positioning in degree programme rankings and the high rate of employment success of its graduates.
