Credit recognition

In general terms, credit recognition is understood as the acceptance by the University of credits obtained in other official studies, so that they become part of the student’s academic record, for the purpose of obtaining an official university degree different from the one originally pursued.

Likewise, the possibility of recognizing credits derived from professional and work experience, other official higher education studies, university-specific programs, university activities, transversal competencies, partial validation of foreign studies, adaptations, among others, is also provided.

The Consello de Goberno of USC approved, on July 24, 2024, the Regulation on the Recognition and Transfer of Credits for Official Undergraduate and Master's Studies, based on Royal Decree 822/2021, of September 28, which regulates the organization of university education and establishes the procedure to ensure its quality.

The Rectoral Resolution of February 5, 2025, develops this regulation concerning the recognition of activities and publishes the catalog of activities eligible for recognition along with their equivalence in ECTS credits.

Additionally, the Rectoral Resolution of February 17, 2025, incorporates the possibility of requesting a prior review of the academic transcript, with the aim of informing students about the subjects and activities eligible for recognition in degree programs offered by the University of Santiago de Compostela.

Information for each type of recognition

Credits approved in official Spanish university studies or in other official university studies offered by a foreign higher education institution officially recognized in its country may be subject to recognition, as indicated in Articles 7 and 8 of the Regulation on the Recognition and Transfer of Credits for Official Undergraduate and Master’s Studies.

According to Articles 9 and 10 of the Regulations, undergraduate students may obtain up to a maximum of 12 optional ECTS credits, within the limit established in Article 4.2 of the Regulations, in their degree program through academic recognition of their participation in university activities of a cultural, sporting, student representation, solidarity, or cooperation-related nature, as well as through other complementary academic activities organized by the University of Santiago de Compostela, in accordance with the Rector’s Resolution of February 5, 2025, which implements the Regulations on the recognition and transfer of credits for official undergraduate and master's degrees at the University of Santiago de Compostela, and which publishes the catalog of eligible activities and their credit equivalence.

The credits recognized for these activities will be counted, at the student's request, as optional credits in the corresponding curriculum.

It refers to the recognition of non-university higher education studies leading to the award of official qualifications such as Bachelor’s Degrees in Artistic Education, Advanced Sports Technician, Advanced Vocational Training Technician, as well as university-specific programs, in accordance with Articles 11 and 12 of the Regulations.

This refers to the recognition of credits between university programs that are subject to modification, in accordance with Articles 14 and 15 of the Regulations.
