The decrease in the birth rate, together with the increase in life expectancy, generated by scientific advances and improvements in hygiene and dietary habits, are leading to a progressive aging of the population. Therefore, in recent times there has been a greater interest in the study of both aging and the quality of life of elderly people.
Quality of life constitutes a broad and variable concept, which goes beyond the state of health and encompasses other aspects related to physical, mental and social well-being, such as the economy, education, leisure activities or personal satisfaction.
Through this subject we will try to highlight those modifiable aspects, on which action can be taken so that older people achieve an adequate quality of life.
GOALS
• Know the concepts of health, illness, aging, active aging, quality of life, etc.
• Know the different theories of aging and the major geriatric syndromes.
• Analyze the main factors related to the quality of life in the elderly.
• Know strategies to improve the management and use of leisure time.
• Know the indications for physical and sports activity for elderly people.
• Analyze aspects related to sexuality in the elderly.
• Delve into existing non-conventional treatments and thermal cures.

Students will be able to identify the fundamental aspects related to improving the quality of life in older adults.
• Theoretical classes supported by audiovisual media: interactive presentations and videos.
• Resolution of problems related to the theoretical contents of the subject.
• Practical sessions related to the theoretical contents of the subject.
• Constructive and scientific debates.
• Analysis of texts or videos on aspects related to quality of life that are current.
• Viewing films or documentaries related to the contents of the subject.
The evaluation of the subject will be carried out continuously throughout the course. For this, the following will be taken into account:
• The presentation of short and simple works related to the subject: 80% of the grade.
• Active participation in the classroom: 20% of the grade.
• Class attendance.
The subject consists of 3 ECTS. Each ECTS credit is equivalent to 25 hours, of which 16.5 correspond to the student's autonomous work, so the assigned study and personal work time is 49.5 hours.
It is recommended to maintain continuous monitoring of the subject, attend classes regularly and use the available resources.
