Introduce students to the management of bioinformatics tools, including some that will be used in the different subjects of the master.
1. Databases
Access and management of information contained in the main “omics” databases (genomics, transcriptomic, proteomic, epigenomic), gene expression, etc.
2. Analysis and management of sequences
Algorithms and programs for the alignment of nucleotide and protein sequences. Alignment of genomes, alignment of reads against a genome, etc. Genome assembly ideas. Different methods for the reconstruction of trees and phylogenetic networks through the use of DNA sequences.
3. Functional bioinformatics.
4. Analysis of pathways and gene networks. The use of GO terms for functional analysis. Use of bioinformatic tools designed for this.Deonier, R. C., Tavaré, S. & Waterman, M. S., Computational Genome Analysis, An introducction, Springer, 2005, USA
Salemi, M. & Vandamme A. (Ed.) The Phylogenetic Handbook, Cambridge University Press, 2003, UK.
Stekel, Dov, Microarray Bioinformatics, Cambridge University Press, 2003, UK.1. Use BLAST to search for sequences in databases, align with CLUSTAL and (where appropriate) to a phylogenetic analysis of the same.
2. Using databases to GO and KEGG functional annotation. The expository and interactive teaching will be face-to-face and will be complemented with the virtual course of the subject.
Tutorials will be face-to-face.A final test will be carried out by telematic means.
