Mission, vision and values

IPsiUS Strategic Framework

IPsiUS’ mission is to conduct basic and applied research to understand, explain and predict the cognitive, affective and social processes that underpin human behaviour, and to provide science-based solutions to improve the health and well-being of individuals and, by extension, communities.

In the first strategic cycle, IPsiUS’ vision is to become a centre recognised in the scientific community for the uniqueness, quality and impact of its research in the field of Psychology, creating the necessary conditions to opt for accreditation as a Research Centre of Excellence of the CIGUS Network26. Furthermore, in the context of the Galician R&D&I System, it aspires to be a key agent, with the potential to assume a driving role in the definition of social innovation policies and services in the fields of mental health and the well-being of people and communities.

The IPsiUS team is guided by a set of core values that define a shared identity and drive its mission. These values reflect a strong commitment to advancing psychology and making a positive impact for individuals, communities and society as a whole:

  • Collaboration. The most effective solutions to complex psychological challenges emerge when diverse forces and perspectives come together. At IPsiUS we encourage an integrative working dynamic, recognising that the combination of different approaches and knowledge enriches individual perceptions and allows us to approach scientific problems from innovative angles.
Avant-garde in all dimensions of our work at IPsiUS: from knowledge production to psychological practice. It inspires us to question the status quo as an opportunity to grow and improve. We promote creativity and the constant search for new solutions to address changing challenges in the various fields of psychology. This way we can make a significant difference to people's lives and contribute to the continued advancement of our scientific field.
  • Adaptability. IPsiUS recognises the dynamic nature of psychology. Emerging challenges and opportunities require a flexible and responsive response, which is why we remain open to the incorporation of new knowledge, approaches and technologies. We are committed to continuous advancement, enabling us to provide accessible solutions and services that are contingently tailored to the needs of individuals and society.
  • Responsibility. Ethics is the cornerstone of IPsiUS. We maintain the highest ethical standards in all our research, teaching and transfer efforts. We are committed to the generation and responsible use of psychological knowledge. We are transparent in our actions and accountable in our decisions. We openly share our research designs, methodologies and results, contributing to a more inclusive, transparent and collaborative model of science.
  • Commitment, which extends beyond the walls of IPsiUS. We strive to be active agents of change in the local and global communities we serve. This implies that we take into account the cultural, social and economic diversity of our environment while working towards broader global goals such as sustainability, social justice or prosperity. We measure our success by the real-world results and advances in health and well-being that result from our work.

These values are the fundamental pillars that guide the research, teaching and knowledge transfer that takes place at IPsiUS. Together they define who we are and what we aspire to achieve as an Institute, propelling us towards a future in which psychology plays an essential role in the meaningful improvement of the human condition.
