The main objective is to initiate students in scientific research in the field of Theoretical and Computational Chemistry. The student must acquire sufficient training so that, after having studied this matter, he/she will be able to address problems similar to that conducted in the master thesis.
The Master's Thesis will have research character and will involve the completion of a project associated with a work plan signed by the student's supervisor. Students will have to carry out:
• Documentation of previous work and current status of the project proposed as subject.
• Development of a proposal for objectives.
• Performance of computer simulations and/or theoretical developments.
• Preparation, presentation and public defense of results and conclusions.Due to the specialized nature of this subject, the basic and specific literature will depend on the topic of the research problem of the Master Thesis. In general, it will include bthe use of textbooks as well as research articles.
After the course, students should be able to apply their knowledge and their ability to solve problems in new or unfamiliar environments within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to their field of study.
Students should be able to communicate their conclusions and knowledge to specialist and non-specialist audiences in a clear way.
Students should acquire the skills that enable them to continue studying in a way that will be largely self-directed or autonomous. They should be able to innovate and show initiative to address new problems.
Identify information from the scientific literature using appropriate channels and analyse it to formulate and contextualize a research topic.
Students should demonstrate ability to analyse, describe, organize and manage research projects.Resolution of practical exercises (problems, multiple choice questions, interpretation and processing of information, evaluation of scientific publications, etc).
Individual tutoring.
Oral presentation of papers, reports, etc., including discussions with teachers and students.
Use of specialized computer software and Internet. Online Support (Campus Virtual).
Personal work.
Performance of an individual practical work under the supervision of a personal supervisor, and using adequate infrastructure and other means necessary to achieve the objectives. The evaluation will be based on the public defense of the research work developed by the student.
The learning system will include the following training activities: individual tutoring, test preparation of work supervised by the tutor and personal study of the student.Individual tutorials: 50 hours
Preparation of work supervised by the tutor: 500 hours
Personal study: 200 hours
Total time: 750 hoursThere are no specific recommendations for this subject.
