Composition
It consists of:
- The chancellor
- The general secretary
- The manager
- 300 representatives of the different sectors of the university community, elected by universal, free, equal, direct and secret vote, with the following distribution: 51% of teaching staff with permanent ties; 11% of members of the other categories of teaching and research staff; 28% of students; 10% of administrative and service staff.
These are the competences of the University Senate:
- The drafting of the Statutes and their amendment.
- The removal of the chancellor, through convening extraordinary elections.
- The election of members of the Governing Council on their behalf.
- The drafting and approval of its internal rules of procedure.
- The election and revocation of the ombudsman of the university community, the approval of its Statutes and the debate of its annual report.
- The approval of the Statutes of the student body.
- The approval of the general lines of the General Electoral Regulations and of the regulations for teaching and research staff, administration and service staff and of USC-specific courses.
- Deliberation of the chancellor's annual report.
- Approval of the broad outlines of multi-annual programming and budgets.
- Knowledge and discussion of strategic planning and job relations.
- The expression of the opinion of the university community and the formulation of institutional recommendations, proposals and declarations, as well as the discussion of matters formulated by the chancellor or by the Governing Council.
- Receipt of information on the functioning and objectives of the University.
- The control of the management of the governing bodies of the University.
- The election of the Complaints Committee against the proposals of the committees of the tenders for access to the teaching staff and the PhD contracted teaching staff.
- The establishment of the general criteria that the USC must take into account for the creation, modification and suppression of centres and departments and for their affiliation to the University.
