Campus Terra just won the gold medal of specialisation
The beginning of September usually means that leaves start to fall off trees and that autumn is just around the corner. At Campus Terra, however, the opposite is true, and flowers even bloom!
The Lugo Campus of the University of Santiago de Compostela has just received, with the highest rating, a new recognition from the Xunta de Galicia (the Galician Government). This is the first full accreditation granted in our region and is the result of the specialised work it carries out in the strategic areas of sustainable agriculture, livestock and forestry.
The journey to reach the finish line was long and laborious — this complex process began in 2013, as part of the Galician Government’s campus specialisation strategy. Its objective is to increase the value of central campuses by allowing them to develop an identity of their own, linked to their environment, as well as to establish them as active players in the promotion of research and economic development.
This was followed by the preparation of a comprehensive report, prepared by a committee of nationally and internationally renowned experts. After this evaluation, the campus achieved the highest grade, becoming the first one in the Galician University System to obtain full accreditation.
But that’s not it, as good news never comes alone! Along with this seal of quality, Campus Terra will receive approximately one million euros in funding per year during the four years that the funding agreement signed between the Ministry of Culture, Education and University and the USC will be in force.
The next (and last) step is to draw up a protocol for the next four years, in order to make progress in some areas in which the USC is working to strengthen the Lugo Campus. Thus, among the priorities are to recruit more students, boost research and scientific results, and to increase the transfer of knowledge.
There is no doubt that this accreditation is a great achievement for Campus Terra, as it reinforces its status as a specialist in areas like plant production and sustainable agriculture, animal health, safe and healthy eating, and sustainable forest management. which fit perfectly with the socio-economic reality of the province of Lugo.
