Campus Terra is crossing borders thanks to agroforestry and livestock-derived energy
From an early age, we learned about the different types of energies in Science class: renewable and non-renewable energy. There are also several subtypes, depending on their source.
The different types of energy that move Campus Terra are not only renewable, but also unique, and one of them is derived from agroforestry and livestock. Its drive has allowed the institution to cross borders and even spark an interest about Lugo in people from other countries.
This is how a delegation from the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) in Portugal recently landed on campus to explore its facilities. The purpose of this visit was to increase student and teacher mobility between the two academic institutions, as well as to study the possibility of creating inter-university postgraduate courses or the joint development of R&D&I projects.
In this sense, the great similarities between the degrees and research projects of the UTAD and the Campus Terra are a good starting point that will blossom into the formation of a new framework agreement that will bring new job opportunities, such as the future call for the Interreg and Horizon Europe programmes, or the promotion of innovative projects that work with Galician and Portuguese companies.
This day allowed them to establish common goals and lay the foundations for a new framework agreement between the two parties, and the university delegation also took advantage of the opportunity to explore the Campus Terra facilities and visit the Rof Codina Veterinary Hospital, Cebiovet and the Experimental Farm.
The delegation also stopped by the Hall for Dairy Products and Food Technologies (APLTA), the Platform for Structural Wood Engineering (Pemade) and the Institute of Agrarian Biodiversity and Rural Development (Ibader), which aroused great interest amongst the representatives of the UTAD.
There is no doubt that the specialisation of the Lugo Campus in the fields of food, livestock and forestry makes it a leading institution whose reach is crossing borders.
