Campus Terra is planting the seed of agro-food sustainability in five Lugo municipalities
When we eat certain foods, we nourish our body to keep it functioning and support all vital functions. Similarly, territories with low population densities and poor competitiveness also need adequate nutrient intake to catalyse primary and agri-food production.
The imitation of this type of chemicals arises from the Nutrir Galicia project, a transnational initiative promoted by the Campus Terra and supported by the Xunta de Galicia's Ministry of Rural Affairs and the Viana do Castelo Polytechnic Institute (IPVC), among other administrations.
This program focuses on municipalities in which the presence of R & D & I structures with highly qualified human resources can contribute to articulating business planning and sustainability strategies. In this sense, their objectives are aligned with those of Campus Terra, as they both seek to guide both the transformation in the primary sector and in rural areas. The actions to achieve this include the training of professionals, applied research, and the transfer of knowledge in different specialisations.
Not in vain, the great abilities of Campus Terra in areas such as beef cattle, the water management of vines, the development of environments with mycological potential or the analysis and control of cheese production in the APLTA confirm that there is room to strengthen these territories.
Thus, Nutrir Galicia emerges as a new example of a territorial intervention model that, for now, is starting its journey in the municipalities of Cervantes, Friol, Mondoñedo, Muras and Sober, in Lugo. The involvement of territorial actors (rural development groups, municipalities and producers) and public administrations is essential to show the potential of these five municipalities and of the province of Lugo in general.
This joining of forces, which follows the same line as other strategies of other global institutions, is a great boost for rural environments and allows Campus Terra to continue to move forward in its promotion of the primary sector, as well as of the innovation and transformation of production.
