Work placements

External academic work placements are a training activity carried out by university students and supervised by the USC, which aim to allow them to apply and complement the knowledge acquired in their academic training.

At the same time, the work placement allows them to acquire skills that prepare them for professional activities, facilitate their employability and promote their entrepreneurial skills.

Work placements for the degree

This is a 9-credit course that puts into practice the theoretical knowledge obtained in the field of Labour Law and Social Security Law through the resolution in class of various cases and practical cases of both subjects.

The main objective will be to provide students with the necessary methods to achieve the required knowledge in the professional practice of specialist in Labour Relations and also to facilitate their insertion in the job market, looking for those aspects and subjects that present greater litigation at every moment or that are considered of greater social importance.

Optional external work placements may be carried out with an allocation of 12 credits. Depending on the profile of the students and their particular interests they will be assigned an entity in which to carry out the work placements among the different companies, institutions and organisations with which the centre has agreements.

The students, in coordination with the corresponding tutors of the Degree and of the company or institution, will carry out those tasks that the entity determines within the framework of the general and specific competences that correspond to them.

Work placements for the Master’s Degree

The undertaking of External Work Placements is aimed at students’ putting into practice the knowledge, skills and abilities acquired during the Master’s degree. This consists of carrying out work placements through a system of regulated permanence in a company, body or administrative, economic or professional institution, whether public or private, as well as the preparation of a report in which the experience of carrying them out is reflected.

The main objective of the work placements is to complement the theoretical training of the students and to facilitate their insertion in the world of work. This will allow students to assimilate the institutional and business reality of their environment in the field of their respective future professions with the following aims in particular:

  • Comprehensive training in the field of study of the degree, balancing theoretical and practical training.
  • Acquisition of the skills required for the diploma.
  • Obtaining professional experience that facilitates employability and the most suitable insertion in the labour market.
  • Development of decision-making skills, critical thinking and teamwork skills.

The total load is 6 credits (ECTS) distributed as follows:

  • Hours of face-to-face work placements in the company or institution: 120 hours.
  • Hours of work and study by the student for the preparation of the Final Report: 25 hours.
  • Attendance at personalised tutorials: 5 hours.

These are voluntary work placements that cannot exceed 12 credits (300 hours). A cooperation agreement between the USC and the corresponding entity must be signed in order to carry out the work placement.

The student cannot maintain any contractual relationship with the company, public or private institution in which they are going to carry out the work placement and collaborating entities that are more than 10% owned, managed or administered by an applicant student are also excluded. A report should be drawn up to reflect the experience of carrying out the work placements.
