The Culture Department of the Vice-Chancellor’s Office for Equality, Culture and Services of the USC offers various cultural initiatives to the entire university community, in which you can participate as an audience, but also as a performer. The University has a symphony orchestra, two theatre companies, a dance space, music library, spaces for photography and cinema in Santiago de Compostela and Lugo, and an astronomy programme.
On the other hand, Galicia has a very rich cultural offer, both in the field of traditional culture and contemporary creations. In the portal of the Regional Ministry of Culture, Education and University you can find information on the major cultural programmes that are undertaken in Galicia and access to the websites of museums, libraries and centres of creation in performing and musical arts, visual arts, photography and film, among other areas.
You will also find information on Galicia’s tangible and intangible cultural heritage, among which undoubtedly the Camino de Santiago, in its many variants, is worthy of mention. It is also worth pointing out the important archaeological heritage of the Roman period in the city of Lugo, where the city wall, declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco, should be highlighted.
An essential part of this cultural heritage is the Galician language, the use of which is promoted by the USC through its Linguistic Normalisation Department, which offers services to both Galician speakers and newcomers who want to learn Galician.
