ESF is an independent, non-profit association based on transformative volunteering, which seeks to contribute to the collective construction of a just, critical and caring global society through development cooperation and the use of technology in the service of human development and the common good.
Network of electronic recycling banks with free software
The aim is to participate in the collection and reconditioning of computer material generated by different schools, faculties and other bodies of the USC. These are tested, installed with an operating system based on free software, and channelled through social action organisations to families who need them to bridge the digital divide.
It also participates in talks or events promoting the recycling banks network, free software and ethical electronics in secondary schools, fairs, etc
- Timetable: from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., but may vary depending on the schedule of activities.
- Places: 3 people on each bench.
Women technologists for the common good
To give talks in secondary schools by women students taking technological careers who can serve as a reference point for girls who are thinking of pursuing a technological career. Volunteers would be integrated into ESF and trained in technology for the common good and human rights before starting the talks. They would organise at least one talk a year.
- Timetable: dates decided in coordination with the volunteer and the secondary school.
- Places: 4.
Volunteering in international cooperation and knowledge of other realities
Volunteering to monitor the international programmes of Enxeñaría Sen Fronteiras in Honduras (with two programmes, one on the right to water and the other on food sovereignty, both with a gender component) and Mozambique (programme to combat drought). They will be carried out in coordination with the contracted staff managing the projects, and with the organisations in each country implementing the projects on the ground . There may be an option to carry out the End of Master’s Degree Project/End of Degree project on the project subjects. There may also be an option to apply for one of the places in the Reality Awareness Programme for a stay of at least 2 months in the field.
- Timetable: A group meeting approximately every 2 months and communication via e-mail list/telegram channel. Flexibility to agree with the rest of the group.
- Places: 3 (Mozambique group) and 3 (Honduras group).
Volunteering in access to basic services and technology for the common good
The aim is to participate in the groups of access to basic services based on technology for the common good that are carrying out different activities (citizen research, discussion groups in secondary schools and also in non-formal settings, campaigns on social networks...). The groups to choose from (one or several) are:
- Right to water and sanitation.
- Right to food with a food sovereignty approach.
- Energy and climate change.
- Low-cost technology for inclusion (of people with mobility problems, perception problems, etc.).
- Timetable: A group meeting approximately every 2 months and communication via e-mail list/telegram channel. Flexibility to agree with the rest of the group.
- Places: 3 persons per group.
