In its volunteer programmes, the USC offers the possibility of acquiring a unique experience by participating in a project of a social entity in Santiago, Lugo or other locations.
The volunteering activities have flexible timetables and the collaboration is established on an individual basis, according to personal availability and the needs of the programme in which you wish to participate.
Activities are carried out in different areas: social inclusion, health, attention to diversity, university community, education, minors, the elderly, environment, culture, among others.
It should also be noted that in volunteer programmes with minors, it is necessary to have a certificate proving you have not committed crimes of a sexual nature.
Throughout the academic year, there are certain activities that give preference to those who start their collaboration in October or February, with the possibility of making adjustments to the timetable taking into account the university academic year.
All activities in which participation is possible reinforce the acquisition of transversal skills, help to enrich the curriculum and obtain academic recognition. Up to 6 optional credits can be recognised for social participation and volunteering activities in all degree programmes.
The academic recognition of the activities is based on the number of hours spent in the volunteer programme. In any case, the first optional credit is the result of adding the basic training modules (10 hours) to the volunteer hours carried out during the academic year. One optional credit is equivalent to 25 hours.
The basic training modules are self-taught. The first part consists of two modules, a common introductory module and a specific module, which are assessed by means of multiple-choice questionnaires. In the second part, two tasks are required, a commentary on a proposed subject and a report on the voluntary activity. Each assignment must be at least 1000 words in length to be assessed. It is necessary to have passed all the tasks in order to apply for the certificate of academic recognition.
All degree students have the possibility to apply for academic recognition when participating during a semester, as long as the timing of the activity allows it. Likewise, all registered persons can apply for a certificate at the end of their volunteering.
