Organised by the Galician Coordinator of the Development NGO as part of Compostela+Solidaria in collaboration with SEPIU and the organisations EAPN-Galicia, Agareso and Ecos do Sur.
Hate speech in education
The aim of the conference is to understand the dynamics that sustain hate speech in all its forms. But also to bring us closer to resources, inspiring experiences and testimonies from which to learn from two very specific areas: education and social organisations and movements.
On Thursday 15 June, the focus will be on the educational community, with the presentation "Educating in diversity". Ovidio Villar, teacher and promoter of numerous initiatives at IES (Secondary School) Carlos Casares in Viana do Bolo; Sonia Díaz, Global Citizenship Education technician at Agareso; and Marta G. Franco, hacktivist and journalist on the team of La Intersección and initiatives such as @nolesdescasito.
In addition, students from several schools will participate in workshops aimed at working on hate speech.
This first day is exclusively for the educational community. But Friday's event is open to anyone who wishes to attend, subject to registration.
Artificial intelligence, biases and narratives
On Friday 16, the Summit welcomes journalist and researcher Paula Guerra Cáceres, from the AlgoRace-(De)racialising AI collective, who will present the report entitled "An Introduction to AI and Algorithmic Discrimination for Social Movements".
Vivian Rangel, journalist, researcher and teacher at maldita.es, will also be there to talk about disinformation narratives.
It will be possible to participate in a dynamic exchange of inspiring experiences and good practices, as well as to learn about testimonies and strategies against hate developed by activists and collectives in Latin America.
This conference is especially aimed at organisations and social collectives, but anyone with an interest in communication, technology, and education... can register and participate free of charge.
