- To develop managerial skills in the organization of a group of undergraduate students in charge of the development of an engineering project.
- To encourage effective leadership, with an ethical commitment, applying basic management and direction tools.
- To train students in the valorization of human capital through effective communication, detection of weaknesses and strengths, professional motivation and conflict resolution.
- To generate skills for the acquisition of responsibilities, time management, critical vision and decision making.
- Improve the ability to transmit scientific-technical terms.
- To introduce students to the use of useful tools in the technical and temporal monitoring of projects.
Project monitoring methods: preparation of schedules, computer tools. Application of the theoretical concepts introduced in the remaining subjects of the module to the management of a project related to chemical engineering to be carried out by students of the Degree in Chemical Engineering, as well as other degrees with contents related to the development of chemical process projects.
BASIC
- Project Management Institute (2008). A Guide to the project management body of knowledge: PMBOK guide. 4th Ed. PMI. Pennsylvania.
COMPLEMENTARY
- UNE-ISO 21500:2013 - Guidelines for the direction and management of projects.
- UNE-ISO 10006:2018 - Quality management. Guidelines for quality management in projects.
The competences to be developed, according to the master's degree report are:
Basic and General: CB8, CG4, CG11, CG12, CG13, CG15.
Specific: CE1, CE5, CE6, CE9, CE12.
Transversal: CT1, CT3, CT4, CT5, CT6.
Work will focus on the following competences: CG4, CG12, CE5, CE9, CT3, CT6.
Students enrolled in this subject will be paired with the objective of having management teams with two clearly differentiated profiles: technical director and planning director. Each team will carry out management tasks with groups of students of the Degree in Chemical Engineering (preferably of 2nd year and enrolled in the activity of 5 ECTS credits offered as a subject of recognizable credits) or with groups of students of the Degree in Chemistry (enrolled in the compulsory subject of 4th year: Professional Projects in Chemistry), in the development of a project.
The expository teaching of the subject is focused on the approach of objectives and exposition of concepts, applied to the management of engineering projects (CB8, CE5, CE9).
Likewise, the objectives to be achieved with the computer programs that will be used to carry out the project management will be presented in seminars in the computer classroom (CT3, CT4, CE5, CE12).
The students of the subject will define a selection process to form the managed teams. The process to be developed will be defined and they will direct the realization of the project (application of material and energy balances to a process with the consideration of thermodynamic aspects, chemical reaction, safety, economic, environmental...).
The seminars will be carried out under the supervision of the teaching staff of the subject (corroboration of the performance of the project directors) or without it (undergraduate groups under the direction of the master students) (CE6, CG11, CG12, CG13, CG15, CT1, CT3, CT4, CT5, CT6 CT6). Group tutoring is aimed at detecting strengths and correcting weaknesses of the project managers.
Students will also be able to make any queries they wish in individualized tutorials during the timetable established for this purpose.
The Learning Management System (LMS) will be used as a teaching support tool.
- Temporal description of the activities:
Expositives (3 h): Presentation of the subject. Project management. Functions of the director.
Seminars (22 h): Follow-up of the project development.
Computer classroom (6 h): Computer tools.
Group Tutoring: To be fixed between the 3rd and 4th week of the course.
The delivery of the report of the project carried out by the degree team is a requirement to be able to be submitted for evaluation.
The evaluation at the first opportunity will be based on:
- Oral evaluation consisting of the presentation of the activities carried out and achievements: 40%
- Work/activities (50%) consisting of the sum of several elements:
- Project carried out by the team grade directed: 10%
- Report on the technical evaluation of the project: 20 %.
- Final Gantt chart, revised and compared to the initial version: 20 %.
- Teacher's report on the quality of the direction based on the development of the seminars: 10 %.
In case of not passing the subject in the first opportunity, an additional report will be requested in the second opportunity, which will include at least a diagram of activities and resources of the project built from the experience developed.
Repeating students will have to carry out the planned activities in their entirety.
The evaluation of the competences indicated in the methodology section for the expository classes and the computer seminar will be carried out mainly through the oral exam and the evaluation of the project presented (CB8, CE5, CE9, CE12, CT3, CT4). The transversal competences, fundamentally, will be evaluated through the supervision of the seminars of the work teams supported by the evaluation of the undergraduate students through a questionnaire designed for this purpose (CE6, CG11, CG12, CG13, CG15, CT1, CT3, CT4, CT5, CT6).
For cases of fraudulent performance of exercises or tests, the provisions of the Regulations for the evaluation of the academic performance of students and grade review will apply.
It is a 4.5 ECTS course.
