To guide the student in the process of elaborating and presenting orally a work of research
To offer students the opportunity to specialize in a particular area of English Studies.
To prepare students for independent research at postgraduate level
Contents will be determined by the topic, field and research project selected by the student and his/her supervisor.
Bibliography will be provided by the student’s supervisor according to the student’s research area.

CB6 - To possess and understand knowledge that provides a basis or opportunity to be original in the development and / or explanation of ideas, often in a research context.
CB7 - That students know how to apply the knowledge acquired and their ability to solve problems in new or unfamiliar environments within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to their area of study.
CB8 - That students are able to integrate knowledge and face the complexity of formulating judgments based on information that, being incomplete or limited, includes reflections on the social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of their knowledge and judgments.
CB9 - That students are able to communicate their conclusions and the knowledge and ultimate reasons that support them to specialized and non-specialized audiences in a clear and unambiguous way.

G05 - Abilities to investigate and manage new knowledge and information within the context of English Studies..
G08 - Progressive autonomy in the learning process, personal/individual search for resources and information, by getting access/accessing (to) bibliographical and documentary references on the various areas that make up/define/shape English Studies.
G09 - Ability to carry out research work of an academic nature in the different realms of English Studies.
G10 - Ability to present and defend a research project by making use of the appropriate terminology and resources/tools within the area object of study.
E01 - Knowledge of the main methods of linguistic research.
E02 - Knowledge of the main resources, tools and methods for linguistic research
E09 - Knowledge of the main models and resources of literary/cultural research in the anglophone world.
E12 - Capacity to understand different theoretical and critical approaches as well as their application for the analysis of different literary and cultural texts in the anglophone world.
The student will maintain tutorials with his/her supervisor/tutor to discuss the topic, contents and structure of the project, exchange bibliographical references, and revise the evolution of the research project.
The Master Dissertation will be assessed by an academic board formed by three teachers participating in the Masters Programme.

Assessed competences: CB6, CB7, CB8, CB9, CB10, G04, G05, G08, G09 G010. Depending on the specialisation: E01, E02 or E09, E12.
12 ECTS correspond approximately with 300 hours of students' workload.
1) Research activities planning: 20 hours
2) Research activities under direct supervision: 50 hours
3) Search and reading of bibliographical sources: 80 hours
4) Writing the MA Thesis: 148 hours
5) MA Thesis' presentation and defence: 2 hours

The research project provides choice and flexibility, reflecting our rich variety of research expertise, and also giving the student the opportunity to specialize in a particular area of English Studies. It is also a superb opportunity to prepare the student for future research at doctoral level.
