- Familiarization with the advanced techniques of Statistics and their application in the field of Optometry.
- Handle a statistical package that allows the analysis of data obtained in research in the field of Optometry.
Topic 1. Review of the basic concepts of descriptive statistics, probability and statistical inference
Topic 2. Analysis of variance with one or more factors
Topic 3. Single and multiple regression models. Correlation. Analysis of covariance
Topic 4. Non-parametric tests for one, two, and more samples
Topic 5. Contingency tables and measures of association
The study materials of the subject will be available on the virtual campus, in which the theoretical contents, illustrative examples and exercises proposed for non-face-to-face theoretical teaching will be developed, as well as scripts for face-to-face computer practices.

The teaching consists of:
-Teaching of theoretical content (7 asynchronous non-face-to-face hours). It is of a non-face-to-face nature, so materials will be provided with the development of each of the topics, along with some solved exercises and others proposed for the student to check their progress.
-Computer practices (12 face-to-face hours scheduled in 6 sessions of two hours), where practical cases are solved using statistical software.
-Tutorials (3 hours face-to-face, telematic or by email), in which learning is monitored and doubts are resolved. The scheduling of a possible face-to-face tutoring session will be done according to the group of students, while individual tutorials will meet the specific demands of each student.
- Written exam (2 hours in person).
Continuous assessment (50%): Continuous assessment will take place throughout the semester. It shall consist of the following elements:
-Resolution of proposed exercises through the virtual platform, which will be delivered together with the necessary explanatory report.
-Evaluation forms for practical computer classes, which will be carried out during the hours of practical teaching.
The grade obtained by continuous evaluation will be kept only for the retake test of the same course.
Final exam (50%): the final exam will consist of several theoretical-practical questions on the contents of the subject, which may include the interpretation of results obtained with the statistical software used in practical computer teaching.
A student is considered to have taken a call when he or she participated in an assessment activity, either by continuous assessment or by examination.
FACE-TO-FACE CLASSROOM WORK
Computer practice (12 hours)
Tutorials (3 hours)
Completion of the exam (2 hours)
TOTAL CLASSROOM WORK (17 hours)
INDIVIDUAL OR GROUP WORK (58 hours)
-Attendance at face-to-face activities and monitoring of the tasks proposed for the theoretical content.
-Make use of the tutorials to consult any questions that may arise.
