Student Welcome and Orientation Program

The Student Welcome and Orientation Program of the Faculty of Communication Sciences comprises a series of actions carried out throughout the students' stay at this center.

Program Actions

The welcome ceremony for new students takes place on the first academic day of the school year.

The reception consists of an informative session led by the dean's team and the center's manager about the organization and services of the faculty. It includes a visit to the different technical classrooms and the library, aiming to:

  • Integrate new students into the center.

  • Provide guidance on academic matters to help them plan their academic path.
  • Encourage student participation in university life in general.

Throughout the academic year, various meetings are held to guide students interested in the following:

  • Inter-university mobility programs: SICUE, ERASMUS, BILATERAL agreements, and ERASMUS INTERNSHIPS.

  • External internships, both curricular and extracurricular, organized by the faculty.
  • Final Degree Projects.

Additionally, periodic meetings are held between students, degree coordinators, and class representatives to exchange impressions, address doubts, and discuss various considerations about the academic year's progress.

Students selected through this program, in compliance with the provisions of the call, "will welcome new students by acting as tutors throughout the academic year, collaborate in promoting the USC in secondary education centers in Galicia, assist in guided tours that secondary students make to the USC facilities, and participate in other activities related to secondary education."

In line with the Improvement Action Plan established by the University of Santiago de Compostela since the 2016-17 academic year, which aimed to "provide information on potential dropouts before the end of the academic year," the Quality area has been distributing a potential dropout report to the centers at the end of the first semester.

In response to this semi-annual report, our Faculty has since implemented an action protocol aimed at redirecting, supporting, closely monitoring, and, when appropriate, dissuading students at risk of abandoning their undergraduate or double degree studies.
