Access to Degree

In Galicia, the entrance examinations to the three Galician universities –Baccalaureate Assessment for University Access (ABAU) and for people over 25 and 45 years old– are organised by the Galician Inter-University Commission (CIUG).

If you want to apply for a place, you must meet one of the following access requirements established in article 3 of RD 412/2014:

  • To have a baccalaureate certification or equivalent and pass the university entrance exam.

  • To comply with the requirements for university access in the educational systems of Member States of the European Union or other States with which Spain has signed international agreements in this area.

  • To have passed the university entrance exam for those over 25, for those over 40 with work or professional experience or the exam for those over 45.

  • To hold a diploma in vocational training, teaching of plastic arts and design or in sports engineering, or equivalent.

  • To hold an official university degree, master's degree or one of those corresponding to the previous order of university education (graduate, architect, engineer) or equivalent qualifications.

  • To have completed partial foreign or Spanish university studies, or who, at the end of the foreign university studies, have not obtained their validation in Spain and wish to continue studies in a Spanish university. In this case, it will be an indispensable requirement that the corresponding university recognises at least 30 ECTS credits.

  • To be able to access the university according to educational orders prior to Organic Law 8/2013 not included in the previous sections.

University entrance exam (ABAU)

Once you have completed the baccalaureate, in order to gain access to a university degree you must pass the Baccalaureate Assessment for University Access (ABAU).  

On the CIUG website you have all the information about the exams and the calendar for the calls; the structure of the exams and access to examinations from previous calls; the grading system and calculation of the admission score; the weighting of core subjects and optional subjects; the procedure for making complaints and requesting a second correction or doing the score and the regulations governing assessment for students with special needs.   

Access exam for persons over 25 years of age

Persons who are at least 25 years of age in the year in which the exam is taken can do this exam and who do not have an academic qualification giving access to university by any other means.

Access from Vocational Training

If you have an official qualification for Higher Technician of Professional Training, Higher Technician for Plastic Arts and Design or Higher Technician for sports, or qualifications, diplomas or studies declared equivalent or validated in the Spanish educational system, you can gain access to study a degree at the university.
 
The applications will be sorted according to the average mark of the qualification of superior technician carried out over a maximum of 10.
 
Note that the grade for admission to university can be 14 points. If you want to improve your admission grade to undergraduate studies, you can take the exam of the voluntary part of the ABAU.
 
You can apply to do a maximum of four modality subjects of the second year of baccalaureate, where you will be able to obtain up to 4 points. The qualification of the subjects of this exam will be valid during the two academic years following their passing.

Maiores de 45 anos

If you turn 45 in this calendar year and do not have any academic qualifications that would allow you to enter university, you can study official undergraduate qualifications after passing an adapted access exam.

University graduates

1% of the places offered are reserved for University graduates, the students are selected on the average grade of the file.

  1. With a university degree, Bachelor's Degree, Diploma, Engineering or equivalent. Your admission grade will be the average of the academic record of the university degree you have.
  2. With an official Master's degree. The admission grade will be the weighted average of the number of credits resulting from the average grade of the Master's degree and the official university degree that gave access to the Master's degree.

Graduates from foreign education systems must have their degree homologated to one of the official Spanish degrees or the declaration of equivalence at an academic level.
