- Acquire the basic knowledge necessary to implement the most appropriate techniques for solving a specific problem of Biomedicine.
- Be able to follow and understand an experimental protocol, and if you need to change or adapt to specific needs.
- Learn to design experiments in the field of biomedicine, looking in each case the techniques needed to answer each question.
- Develop practical skills in the laboratory.
- Provide knowledge about the main techniques of gene transfer.1. Plasmids. Concepts, types and uses. Other vectors used in DNA cloning. Enzymatic manipulation of DNA: Restriction enzymes and modifying enzymes.
2. Detection of nucleic acid sequences: Southern and Northern blot. Hybridization "in situ". DNA sequencing. Microarrays. Construction and "screening" of DNA libraries.
Three. Reaction Polymerase Chain: beginning of the PCR reaction and elements. Applications of PCR. Quantitative PCR.
4. Getting protein from tissues or cell cultures. Production of recombinant proteins. Removal and storage. Methods of quantifying total protein.
5. Separation and purification of proteins: electrophoresis on SDS-PAGE, two-dimensional electrophoresis and affinity chromatography.
6. Detection methods: electrophoretic transfer (Western blot) and immunodetection. Identification of protein interactions: immunoprecipitation.
7. Introduction to proteomics techniques.
8. Detection "in situ" of proteins in cells or tissues: immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence. Fixation, media handling and detection methods
9. Interactions between proteins and DNA. Gel retardation assays. Chromatin immunoprecipitation: ChIP and "ChIP on Chip".Molecular Cloning A Laboratory Manual. Maniatis
• able to organize and plan, under supervision, the development of a research project.
• Being able to work together to achieve common goals from different perspectives.-Theory
- Seminar discussion of research articles, experimental protocols
Classes are taught in the language agreed between the teacher and students.Continuous evaluation and possible final exam
During the course, each student will present some work, be prepared individually.
Attending classes, both theory and seminars.
Use the tutorials for any questions you may have.Contingency Plan
In the Teaching Methodology and in the Learning Assessment System, both synchronous and asynchronous telematic means will be used in order to contemplate the possibility of implementing the three possible scenarios:
normality, scenario 2 and scenario 3.
