The main aim of this course is to provide an overview of the existing lexicographical resources for the different Romance languages considered in the program. In order to avoid overlapping with other subjects dealing with the history of the lexicography of European languages, and in particular of the Romance ones, this subject will focus attention on the study of the lexicography of the Romance languages in the contemporary period. For obvious reasons, the chronological point of departure will not be the same in every case, although it could be set in general in the central years of the 20th century.
Besides this overall view, the subject aspires to provide advanced knowledge about the most relevant works from each one of the traditions, paying special attention to their typological diversity (according to criteria such as the purpose of the work, its target user, the type of producing agent, the descriptive or prescriptive orientation of the work, the number of languages included, the methodology, etc.).

The teaching / learning process will combine the following methods:
(a) Theoretical or expository classes.- They will be focused on the presentation of an initial overview of each of the lexicographical traditions considered in the program.
(b) Practical or interactive classes.- They will consist in critical analyses of different works which could be considered as representative of different traditions, class presentations by the students, practical exercises, discussion of readings, etc.
(c) Tutorial sessions.- They will be devoted to the preparation and supervision of the assignments and compulsory readings that the students must complete.
(d) Out-of-class activities.- They include the whole set of tasks (assignments, exercises, readings, etc.) that the students will have to prepare on their own, always under the close supervision of the teachers.
The evaluation of the attainment of the competences will be done according to these percentages:
· Final coursework: 60% of the final grade
· Coursework on Pan-Romance lexicography: 20% of the final grade
· Participation: 20% of the final grade
These percentages are applicable for both opportunities of evaluation.
Those students who were granted special permission not to attend lessons regularly from the Faculty authorities will necessarily have to write a final work, which is worth 100% of the final grade.
Academic misconduct (cheating, plagiarism in exercises or tests) will be penalized according to the University regulations on student assessment (art. 16th of the “Normativa de avaliación do rendemento académico dos estudantes e de revisión de cualificacións”).
