- A deepening of knowledge in the field of metalexicography and dictionary research has to be achieved.
- Interdisciplinary knowledge should be acquired, because the application possibilities of the theories are not restricted to lexicography but can also be employed in related subject fields.
- (Electronic) Dictionaries and dictionary portals need to be analysed in detail in order to achieve a deeper insight in the structuredness of different dictionary types.
- There should be a critical reflection on the theories and methods that have been presented.
- Relevant questions regarding (electronic) lexicography must be discussed in a competent and proficient way.

3: Methods in lexicography – Textual condensation, typologisation, presentation of structures.
4: Text theory and action theory as foundation of dictionary research
5: Macrostructures: Nests, niches, alphabetical and systematic/conceptual structures.
6: Lexicographic items in printed dictionaries and in electronic dictionaries (Data extraction, processing and evaluation)
7: Microstructures: Theory and types
8: Cross-reference theory: mediostructures, including linking and types of links in electronic dictionaries
9: Different dictionary typologies, and the typology of dictionary portals.
10: Text compound structures: outer texts and inner texts: preface, epilogue, lists, schemata
11: Outer texts: user guidelines
12: Access structures, search area structures, textual architectures in printed and electronic dictionaries (including different webdesigns).
13: Online dictionaries: Search items, search routes, navigation

1. Opportunity:
a) 45-minute final test on the contents of the seminars plus a brief assignment.
or
b) presentation (paper) plus a brief assignment

c) longer assignment
a) 50% for the test and 50% for the assignment
b) 50% for the presentation and 50% for the assignment
c) 100% for the longer assignment.
2. Opportunity: The assessment on the second opportunity will be based on the same criteria.
For students who are officially exempt from attending the assessment system will be the same as for the rest.
Academic misconduct (cheating, plagiarism in exercises or tests) will be penalized according to the University regulations on student assessment (“Normativa de avaliación do rendemento académico dos estudantes e de revisión de cualificacións”).

Requirements for participation: Students muss obtain 25 ECTS in the first semester
Elective module in the second semester .
This module is strongly theory-oriented; it should be taught at the beginning of the summer term because it provides an important foundation for many other modules.
