1. To ensure that students reach a deeper understanding of heart and vascular pathophysiology, both in its static (vessel wall) and dynamic (circulating cells, especially platelets) components.
2. To lay the groundwork for understanding the strategies currently used in cardiovascular and antithrombotic therapy.
3. To give the students the knowledge on the methodologies commonly used for the experimental study of drugs that regulate cardiovascular and platelet function.
-Constitution of the cardiovascular system.
-Cardiac and vascular pathophysiology.
-Platelet pathophysiology.
-Major groups of drugs currently used in the treatment of various cardiovascular pathologies.
-Techniques to study cardiovascular function.
-Techniques to study platelet function.

The courses will be developed through the use of combined methodology that includes:
-Lectures for imparting knowledge of pathophysiology and pharmacology of the cardiovascular system.
- Seminars on the standard research techniques in cardiovascular and platelet research.
-Specific seminars, mainly for clarification of possible doubts about the pathophysiology and pharmacology concepts taught in the lectures.
-Preparation and presentation of work by students, mainly related to new strategies in research and development of drugs useful in cardiovascular diseases.
It will be made through the continuous monitoring of the progress made by students, both through personal contact maintained with them during classes and workshops as testing on foreground.

It is recommended, especially to those students that have never studied pathophysiology in their degrees, the assimilating of the basics of pathophysiology of cardiovascular system to later understand new concepts on the pharmacological treatment of several cardiovascular diseases.
Languages in which the teaching is given: Spanish / Galician / English.
In cases of fraudulent completion of exercises or tests, the provisions of the USC regultation “Normativa de avaliación do rendemento académico dos estudantes e de revisión de cualificacións” will be applicable.
