Article 19 of Law 7/2014, of 26 September, on Galician archives and documents determines that publicly owned documents may not be disposed of without prior assessment and selection.

The University Historical Archive is responsible for the preparation of the studies of documentary series which result in the valuation tables that determine relevant aspects such as transfer deadlines, access regime, conservation or total or partial elimination of the documents or files that comprise it.

The Committee for the Valuation of Administrative Documents of the USC is responsible for approving the aforementioned studies and the General Secretary’s Office is the competent body to submit them to the Galician Council for Documentary Evaluation, created by Decree 15/2016, of 14 January, as a consultative and advisory collegiate body of the autonomous community, of a mandatory nature, for the qualification and use of documents, to determine their access regime, as well as their administrative uselessness in the scope of the Galician Archive System.

Finally, Instruction I/2021 of the General Secretary’s Office regulates the procedure for elimination from the management archives of the administrative units of the USC.
