Volunteering initiative in BALRIAL.
The Food Bank is a non-profit organisation whose main aim is to obtain and make use of surplus food with the intention of sending it to the welfare centres and, through them, to families and people in need. They also organise "kilo operations", which only take place at certain times of the year and last for two days (Friday and Saturday) during the usual opening times of partner supermarkets.
Its aims are to:
- Contribute to reducing hunger in the province.
- Educate and raise awareness about food issues and alternative solutions.
- Develop social awareness of solidarity, establishing the principle of shared social responsibility.
- Provide soup kitchens, old people's homes, children's homes and other public welfare institutions and entities with healthy and nutritious food.
- Involve the business sector to engage in socially responsible actions by making donations of surplus non-marketable products.
- Promote aid and monetary donations from individuals and businessmen to support the project.
- Promote and disseminate possible solutions to overcome the problem of hunger.
Bank warehouse support programme
- Sorting of food from collections, donations and kilo operations from companies and supermarkets.
- Preparation of food batches for delivery to the entities.
