O obxectivo do Grao en Economía é formar ao estudantado para exercer como profesionais dotados de capacidade analítica respecto aos problemas económicos fundamentais, avaliar o seu posible impacto nas políticas públicas e privadas e propoñer solucións, cambios e reformas a partir do manexo e interpretación de datos.

O contexto internacional actual require coñecementos de economía cada vez máis avanzados e en permanente actualización.
O programa académico do grao proporciona ao estudantado coñecementos sólidos e ferramentas necesarias para abordar situacións económicas complexas, propias da dinámica xerada pola globalización dos mercados, os procesos de integración social e política rexionais, a revolución tecnolóxica e a mellora dos sistemas e transportes e comunicacións e os retos ecosistémicos asociados ao cambio climático e outras crises ambientais globais.
As persoas que exercen a súa profesión no ámbito da Economía necesitan coñecementos, tanto teóricos como prácticos, que lles permitan analizar acertadamente a realidade económica circundante, entendendo a interrelación entre economía e sociedade, a simultaneidade explicativa das manifestacións locais e globais, dos feitos económicos e tamén, o potencial democratizador e transformador da política económica. Neste contexto, o estudantado aprenderá a procesar e interpretar grandes cantidades de datos xerados por empresas e institucións co fin de explicar feitos relevantes, prever eventos futuros e elaborar propostas.

The study plan has a total duration of 240 credits, which are distributed in four courses of 60 credits each, in subjects that are, in all cases, of a semester nature. Students must complete a Final Dissertation of 6 credits

Although no specific prior knowledge is required, admission to the Bachelor's Degree in Economics will be determined by the weighting of the specific optional subjects in the university entrance exam, predominantly those of the Legal and Social Sciences modality, without restricting access from other high school modalities (RD 243/2022, BOE of 5 April, which establishes the structure of the secondary level and sets the minimum teaching requirements).
Desirable qualities of the future student of the Bachelor's Degree in Economics:
• interest in economic reality and its social implications.
• analytical and synthesis skills.
• social commitment.
• ability to adapt to a changing and competitive environment.
• language skills in Spanish and Galician.
• use of basic computer tools.
• a decent grounding in mathematics.
• a disposition for abstract reasoning.
• B1 level of English and knowledge of as many languages as possible is recommended.

As for incoming students, they are received at the beginning of each semester in an event called Welcome Day to orient them on their arrival at the Faculty and provide them with basic information about their studies, while they are put in contact with the Centre’s staff involved in their care in the Centre and Department Management Unit (UGCD), as well as with the student tutors, who will ensure their integration with the rest of the local students.

When an official degree is suspended, the USC guarantees the effective development of the studies started by its students until their completion. To this end, the Governing Council approves the criteria related, among others, to:
• The admission of new enrolments in the degree programme.
• The gradual suppression of teaching.
• If the extinct degree is replaced by another similar one (modifying the nature of the degree), it establishes the conditions that facilitate students’ continuity of studies in the new degree and the equivalences between the subjects of one and the other plan.

• To offer the knowledge that defines economics as a scientific discipline, including its theories, history, methods, techniques and areas of application, at a level that is supported by advanced textbooks and includes some of the most relevant aspects that are at the forefront of knowledge in economics.
• To qualify students to develop and defend arguments on economic issues at a general and non-specialised level, as well as to solve problems on these issues, making use of their knowledge of the economic reality, theories, models and scientific methods specific to economics.
• To prepare students to identify, collect and interpret relevant data on economic issues, incorporating relevant considerations on their social, scientific or ethical dimension in the elaboration of judgements and proposals.
• To provide students with the ability to communicate information, ideas, problems and proposals for solutions to economic issues to both specialised and non-specialised audiences, making use of both verbal and written language and the means and techniques of representation of relationships and presentation of data used in economics.

1. To advise on specific situations in the economy (international, national or regional), sectors and companies in the economy.
2. To contribute to the management of the allocation of resources in the private and public spheres.
3. To critically evaluate significant economic information and to support decision making in the private or public sphere.
4. To prepare studies and reports on economic issues, with a high degree of autonomy, and draw conclusions from them that are useful for the understanding and resolution of economic problems.
5. To operate with ethical responsibility and with respect for human rights, gender equality, diversity and democratic values.
6. To evaluate the social, economic and environmental impact of economic activity.
7. To determine the costs of a company, and to prepare and analyse the balance sheet and the profit and loss account in order to assess its economic-financial situation.
8. To produce studies and reports based on the analysis and modelling of economic data, using mathematical, statistical and econometric techniques and tools.

1. To critically analyse information from different sources in order to acquire new knowledge and apply it to respond to challenges, solve problems or make decisions.
2. To handle oral and written communication accurately and clearly in order to transmit knowledge, results, problems and solutions.

1. To acquire knowledge of the concepts, models and methods of analysis specific to microeconomics.
2. To understand the concepts, models and methods of analysis specific to macroeconomics.
3. To contextualise economic problems, ideas and events in historical terms.
4. To understand the economic and social environment (international, national, regional or local), the processes of economic development and the role of economic institutions.
5. To understand the actions and functions of the public sector in the economy, its revenue and expenditure policy and the process of economic policy making.
6. To be familiar with the theoretical foundations and trends in international economics and the main concepts necessary to understand international economic relations.
7. To learn and interpret the fundamental quantitative tools and techniques (mathematics, statistics, econometrics) for economic and business analysis, diagnosis and forecasting and for decision making.
8. To know the main elements of business management.
9. To know the legal and fiscal system and the institutions of law that revolve around the economic and business reality.
10. To understand the key elements for an economy that is socially and environmentally sustainable.
11. To understand the fundamental principles of accounting and finance.

Mobility

The mobility of own and host students is regulated at the USC by the Regulations for inter-university student exchanges, approved by the Governing Council on 26.10.2012, and amended in 2019, the content of which can be consulted at the following link:

The centre facilitates and promotes the mobility of its students so that they can have the possibility of carrying out their studies recognised by the USC in different universities participating in the Erasmus+, SICUE, bilateral agreement and Erasmus+ KA171 programmes. The management of mobility stays, both incoming and outgoing, is carried out in accordance with the regulations in force in the USC. Their planning and management is carried out through the University Mobility Office, in coordination with the Faculty through the Management Unit of Centres and Departments (UGCD), the academic responsible for mobility and the coordinators of mobility programmes.
The administrative procedures for reception, enrolment, certification and end of stay are carried out at the Mobility Office and the Academic Management Unit.

Internships

The study plan for the Bachelor’s Degree in Economics includes external internships as an optional subject of 9 ECTS. In addition, students can carry out extracurricular internships (between 7 and 30 credits). The main objective of the external academic internships is for students to develop the results of the training and learning process acquired in the degree subjects through immersion in a work environment representative of their future professional context.

Economics graduates are qualified to perform a wide variety of management, advisory and evaluation functions in general economic affairs, both in the public and private spheres. The labour market provides employment opportunities in public institutions, financial entities or private companies.
The Bachelor’s Degree in Economics prepares students for the following professional profiles:
• Free practice of the profession, provision of services: Tax and economic-labour consultancy.
• Economic and environmental consultancy.
• Technical and management bodies in the public sector and its dependent entities.
• In the field of banking, insurance and securities markets.
• Private sector: Studies and planning services.
• Social economy, non-profit organisations.
• Teaching and Research: Secondary Education Centres. Universities. Research centres. Training and/or non-regulated education centres.

The centre organises and manage the students’ final dissertations, guaranteeing their quality, academic recognition and achievement. The definition, completion, defence, grading and administrative processing of the Final Dissertation is carried out in accordance with the regulations in force at the university and the specific regulations of each centre. The Final Dissertation has been planned with a total of 6 ECTS credits, offered in the last semester.
