To introduce the student to the knowledge of the causes of human disease, its pathogenesis, pathophysiology, semiology and general diagnostic methods of the main syndromes, grouped by systems and devices. That they understand the clinical method, a fundamental tool to solve the problems they will encounter in their daily practice. Teach them the bases of medical reasoning. That they know the main characteristics of the most prevalent diseases in our environment, delving into the aspects that may have the most impact on the professional practice of the dentist.
To introduce the student in the comprehensive knowledge of the child, a human being in growth, development and maturation, its normal characteristics from conception to adolescence. Know the deviations from normality, preventive measures, nutritional disorders and the most frequent pathology systematized by organs and systems, especially those that impact oral health.
To introduce the student to the knowledge of human skin and the diseases that primarily or secondarily affect it, as well as the methods for preserving skin normality. Acquire basic knowledge of the most common dermatological conditions and sexually transmitted diseases that, in some way, have an impact on the skin and mucous membranes.
Finally, acquire adequate knowledge about human disease, the characteristics of the most prevalent ones and their dental impact. Who knows how to guide a diagnosis, design a therapeutic scheme, share it with the patient and discuss their questions with other health professionals.

CLINICAL PRACTICE: (45 hours): Clinical practices will be carried out in community health centers. The purpose is that the student knows the structure of a medical history and physical examination, as well as the main signs and symptoms by organs and systems. It is about initiating the student in the exploration of vital signs and in the interpretation of some basic biochemical and hematological tests.
PEDIATRICS (Expositive classes 14 hours and Seminars 6 hours)
1. General characteristics of the child and assistance. Preventive Pediatrics.
2. Growth, maturation and development of the child.
3. Perinatal and neonatal pathology.
4. Nutrition of infants, toddlers, school and teenagers. Food Guide.
5. Pathology of nutrition. I. Diseases of affluence.
6. Pathology of nutrition. II. Nutritional deficit.
7. Hygiene and prevention of infectious diseases. Mechanisms of infection, periods of isolation, clinical manifestations, diagnostic aspects, preventive and treatment of major infectious diseases in childhood and adolescence.
8. Febrile syndrome in childhood. Etiology, diagnosis and treatment guidance. Recommendations to the family.
9. Most common respiratory disease in children.
10. Most common neurological problems in children.
11. Overview of hematologic and oncologic pathology in childhood.
12. General and specific aspects of pediatric clinical pharmacology.
13. PCR in the child.
14. Multidisciplinary team for the prevention and treatment of oral diseases and other facial structures.
PEDIATRIC CLINICAL PRACTICE (15 hours)
The student will participate as an observer in the activities of the pediatric service both in the hospitalization and outpatient areas. The purpose is that the student acquires the basic habits of questioning the child's parents and their clinical examination, as well as the fundamental and basic semiology by organs and systems. Each student will have assigned a clinical tutor. The practical training will take place in the pediatric department of the Hospital Clínico Universitario de Santiago de Compostela.

Understand the importance of such principles for the benefit of the patient, society and the profession, with special attention to professional secrecy. Know how to identify the patient's concerns and expectations, as well as communicate effectively and clearly, both orally and in writing, with patients, family members, the media and other professionals. Understand and recognize the social and psychological aspects relevant to the treatment of patients. Know how to apply the principles of anxiety and stress control to oneself, patients and other members of the dental team. Understand the importance of developing a professional practice with respect to the patient's autonomy, beliefs and culture. Promote autonomous learning of new knowledge and techniques, as well as motivation for quality. Know how to share information with other health professionals and work as a team. Understand the importance of maintaining and using records with patient information for subsequent analysis, preserving the confidentiality of the data. Understand the basis of action, indications and effectiveness of drugs and other therapeutic interventions, knowing their contraindications, interactions, systemic effects and interactions on other organs, based on the available scientific evidence. Understand and recognize the principles of ergonomics and safety at work (including cross infection control, radiation protection, and occupational and biological diseases). Recognize life-threatening situations and know how to perform basic life support maneuvers. Recognize the role of the dentist in prevention and protection actions against oral diseases, as well as in the maintenance and promotion of health, both at the individual and community level.

The expositive lessons and interactive seminars will be taught by lecturers from the areas of medicine, pediatrics and dermatology. They may be carried out in person, telematically or both. The clinical practices, with some exceptions, will take place in hospitals and community health centers.
EXPOSITIVE LESSONS: trying to make it interactive and involving students, stimulating their capacity for clinical reasoning and to relate concepts and knowledge.
CLINICAL PROBLEM SOLVING: Pose clinical problems that introduce them to the fundamental elements of clinical reasoning and help them organize knowledge from a practical and more dynamic point of view. Learning patterns of common diseases and their most prevalent imitators. All these cases/ problems will be connected with the general knowledge of the subject and with their future clinical practice (Dentist's perspective).
CLINICAL SCENARIOS: More or less complex situations that they may have to face in the future. They will be presented in such a way that forces them to relate knowledge, establish concepts and make decisions in real time.
WORKING GROUP: for solving complex clinical problems. Useful for developing interpersonal and expository communication skills, listening, and distributing tasks. Use of online information search tools. Exercise in the appropriate approach to the available clinical information (adequate representation of the clinical problem).
The knowledge acquired in classes and the individual study of the recommended readings will be evaluated through a written test (exceptionally, oral), which must be passed to approve the subject. Written test will consist of "topic questions" (which will require writing), "multi-choice" questions (with predetermined answers of which only one is correct) or a combination of both modalities.
Continuous evaluation (may represent 10% of the final grade, provided the written test is passed): Attendance at seminars and lecture classes may be counted. In some cases, a mini-test will be carried out at the end of the seminars or lecture classes, which will also be counted in this section. Likewise, the outstanding participation in these seminars, the completion of previous or subsequent work in relation to them, and the participation of the entire group will be evaluated. The weight of the continued evaluation in the extraordinary recovery opportunity (July tests) will be the same as in the June one.
In cases of fraudulent completion of exercises or tests, the provisions of the Regulations for evaluating the academic performance of students and reviewing grades will apply.
It is considered that to acquire and establish the necessary knowledge required of the subject through classes, readings, bibliographic consultations and academic work, it requires a personal work and dedication of between 5-8 hours per week.
The student should be aware that although its scope is limited to future dental plan, their studies are framed within the health sciences and, therefore, his duty will be shared with other professionals to ensure comprehensive health their patients and the community.
