Royal Hospital Collection
Founded by the Catholic Monarchs at the end of the 15th century to care for the sick and pilgrims who came to Santiago de Compostela.

There are two distinct stages in its history: the first is from its foundation until 1846, when the State ceased to be responsible for its operation. In this year it became dependent on the four Galician provincial councils under the name of the General Hospital of Galicia. In 1879, the hospital was declared provincial and became dependent on the Provincial Council of A Coruña, which, due to the transfer to a new site, transferred the institution's documentary collections to the University to be incorporated into the Historical Archive in 1960.

The documentary series reflect an overview of the hospital in its most diverse aspects: government, administration, jurisdiction, economic management, the Voto de Santiago, the basis of its financing in the Old Regime, the arrival and care of pilgrims, the sick, and the life of the foundlings.
