This qualification enables in Spain the exercise of the regulated profession of Physician.

The Degree in Medicine aims to train doctors with an understanding of basic, clinical and social sciences, suitable for decision making, reasoning and clinical judgement, who provide quality clinical care, ensuring that patients are not put at unnecessary risk. This qualification also aims to train professionals who demonstrate appropriate attitudes with ethics and legal responsibilities, respecting different cultures, opinions, beliefs and customs of the patient and his/her family, while respecting fundamental and equal rights between men and women.

It also aims for them to learn about, understand and respect the function and competence of other health professionals, capable of establishing good interpersonal communication and teamwork, willing to continuously participate in their professional development, ensuring a high level of competence and clinical knowledge.

Non se contemplan

Aunque no se contemplan condiciones ni pruebas de acceso especiales, se considera que el futuro alumno de medicina debe poseer vocación por la profesión de médico, espíritu de servicio, capacidad de trabajo de forma intensa y continua durante un periodo de tiempo muy prolongado, capacidad y aptitud para trabajar en equipo y comprometido con la gestión de los recursos. Los alumnos que accedan a la titulación de grado de medicina deben poseer una solida formación, a nivel preuniversitario, en biología y química. También sería deseable que adicionalmente la tuvieran en física y tuvieran soltura en el uso de las matemáticas.

1.- El alumnado de primer curso por primera vez a tiempo completo tienen que matricular 60 créditos. Un 15% del alumnado podrá cursar estudios a tiempo parcial (30 créditos).
2.- Continuación de estudios: libre con un máximo de 75 créditos

La USC tiene un programa de alumnos tutores para las titulaciones de grao, de forma que alumnos de últimos cursos, despues de una formación que les facilita la Universidad, realizan tareas de orientación a los alumnos que inician los estudios.

Cuando se produzca la suspensión de un Título oficial, la USC garantiza el adecuado desarrollo efectivo de las enseñanzas que hubieran iniciado sus estudiantes hasta su finalización. Para ello, el Consejo de Gobierno aprueba los criterios relacionados, entre otros, con:
• La admisión de matrículas de nuevo ingreso en la titulación.
• La supresión gradual de la impartición de la docencia.
• Si el título extinguido es sustituido por otro similar (modificando la naturaleza del título), fija las condiciones que facilitan a los/las estudiantes la continuidad de estudios en el nuevo título y las equivalencias entre las materias de uno y otro plan.

Access to Bachelor’s Degree programmes is granted to students with the following degrees/ diplomas or studies, or any other recognized as equivalent to these:
A.1. Spanish Bachiller, European Baccalaureate or International Baccalaureate.
A.2. Baccalaureate from European Union Member States’ education systems or other countries withinternational agreements.
A.3. Advanced Technician in Vocational Training, Advanced Technician in Plastic Arts and Design orAdvanced Technician in Sports Education, from the Spanish Education System.
A.4.Studies carried out in European Union Member States or in other countries with international reciprocal agreements which meet the academic requirements in those States to access their university study programmes.
A.5. Official Spanish university degrees of Diplomado, Arquitecto Técnico, Ingeniero Técnico, Licenciado, Arquitecto, Ingeniero, Graduado or Máster Universitario.
A.6. Partial (foreign or Spanish) university studies.
Access to Bachelor’s Degree programmes is also possible for:
B.1. People over twenty-five after successfully passing a specific access test.
B.2. People over forty with work or professional experience related to a university field of knowledge.
B.3. People over forty-five after successfully passing a specific access test.
Likewise, access to Bachelor’s Degree programmes is granted to:
C.1. People meeting the requirements to enter university according to the Spanish Education System regulations prior to Ley Orgánica 8/2013, of December 9.

The Faculty of Medicine has 16 general purpose classrooms of different, whit an average capacity of 140 seats. It has also classrooms for work in small group, whit an average capacity of 20 seats, labs with an average capacity of 35 seats and a classroom of skills of medical simulation with 36 places.

There are also areas designated for students:

  • A computer room that is free to use and equipped with computers.
  • A computer room in the Library, for individual work.
  • A reading room with 100 seats, shared with the Faculty of Nursery, in the Educational Pavilion.

The centre has a Library that has a reading room with 120 seats, a room for group work, with 12 seats and a newspaper and periodicals library with research journals, audiovisuals and a research store. It has 12 reading stations.

We can also highlight that wireless Internet connection is available everywhere in the Faculty.

In addition, during the clinic teaching, the students use facilities located in the USC University Hospital Complex, equipped for interactive programmes with advanced simulator.

The main objective of the Graduate in Medicine from the University of Santiago de Compostela is training doctors:
1.From the respect for fundamental rights and equality between men and women,
2. With an understanding of the basic, clinical and social science sciences suitable for decision-making, reasoning and clinical judgment,
3. Able to establish good interpersonal communication and teamwork,
4. With appropriate ethical and legal responsibilities attitudes, respecting different cultures, opinions, beliefs and customs of the ill person and his family,
5. And willing to participate in their continuing professional development.

Que los estudiantes hayan demostrado poseer y comprender conocimientos en un área de estudio que parte de la base de la educación secundaria general, y se suele encontrar a un nivel que, si bien se apoya en libros de texto avanzados, incluye también algunos aspectos que implican conocimientos procedentes de la vanguardia de su campo de estudio;

Que los estudiantes sepan aplicar sus conocimientos a su trabajo o vocación de una forma profesional y posean las competencias que suelen demostrarse por medio de la elaboración y defensa de argumentos y la resolución de problemas dentro de su área de estudio;

Que los estudiantes tengan la capacidad de reunir e interpretar datos relevantes (normalmente dentro de su área de estudio) para emitir juicios que incluyan una reflexión sobre temas relevantes de índole social, científica o ética;

Que los estudiantes puedan transmitir información, ideas, problemas y soluciones a un público tanto especializado como no especializado;

Que los estudiantes hayan desarrollado aquellas habilidades de aprendizaje necesarias para emprender estudios posteriores con un alto grado de autonomía.

2. Understanding and recognizing the structure and normal function of the human body at the molecular, cellular, tissue, organ and system levels, in the different stages of life in men and women.
3. Knowing and recognizing the bases of normal human behavior and its disorders.
4. Doing a physical exam and a mental evaluation
5. Being able to formulate an initial diagnosis and to establish a rational diagnostic strategy
6. Indicating the most appropriate treatment for the most common acute and chronic conditions, as well as terminally ill.

 Conocer y reconocer las bases de la conducta humana normal y sus alteraciones.
 Comprender y reconocer los agentes causantes y factores de riesgo que determinan los estados de salud y el desarrollo de la enfermedad.
 Comprender y reconocer los efectos del crecimiento, el desarrollo y el envejecimiento sobre el individuo y su entorno social.
 Comprender y reconocer los efectos, mecanismos y manifestaciones de la enfermedad sobre la estructura y función del cuerpo humano.
 Obtener y elaborar una historia clínica que contenga toda la información relevante.
 Indicar la terapéutica más adecuada de los procesos agudos y crónicos más prevalentes, así como de los enfermos en fase terminal.
 Plantear y proponer las medidas preventivas adecuadas a cada situación clínica.
 Saber utilizar las tecnologías de la información y la comunicación en las actividades clínicas, terapéuticas, preventivas y de investigación.
 Ser capaz de formular hipótesis, recolectar y valorar de forma crítica la información para la resolución de problemas, siguiendo el método científico.

La movilidad de los/as estudiantes está regulada a través del “Reglamento de intercambios interuniversitarios”. A través de la Oficina de Relaciones Exteriores se gestionan programas de intercambio tanto nacionales (SICUE), como europeos (ERASMUS) y extracomunitarios (intercambios con países de América Latina o países de habla inglesa):

Prácticas Externas Optativas
Las prácticas externas en periodo no lectivo se podrán llevar a cabo en Instituciones Sanitarias de ámbito nacional e internacional reconocidas por la Comisión de Calidad del Centro y/o Responsable de Calidad del Centro. La actividad en dedicación a tiempo parcial durante un mes implicará el reconocimiento de 3 ECTS, siempre que se haya justificado fehacientemente haber alcanzado las competencias previamente establecidas. El alumno podrá realizar varios de estos periodos de prácticas.

El alumno redactará una memoria con los contenidos propuestos como trabajo, recurriendo a las fuentes de información bibliográfica, consulta de datos clínicos, experimentales, epidemiológicos, etc. El alumno recibirá la supervisión para la elaboración del trabajo de un Tutor.
Para la presentación y defensa del trabajo es necesario tener superados todos los créditos de la titulación.
